The beginning of this video shows some of the changes that has cost Tiger 5mph in clubhead speed. As Kelvin points out, he hit it with a full pivot for 30 years and became, arguably, the best ever, and now he is making big changes that are dialing it back.
Yes, Hogan stood on the left side and dialed it back and won six of his nine majors, but he had too because of injuries. From what I hear, he absolutely hated giving up those yards.
Tiger can lose another 4mph and have the same clubhead speed as Ricky Fowler, so, of course, he is long enough to win. If his short game gets back to normal, he will win. But it won't be the old Tiger ever again, unless he goes back "to dancing with the one that brung him".

We'll see.
He's only about 1 mph slower than in 2009. And about 5 mph slower than 2007 according to the PGATour.com Web site which uses Trackman to measure.
I suspect that back in '97 he was probably close to 125 mph, but not over that. They tell us that Woodland is at 130mph in some publications, but he's more like 123 mph.
I think the sample size for Tiger is too small right now as well. I'd like to see his clubhead speed numbers by the end of the year. And 118 mph ain't nothing to sneeze at. If you hit up on the ball with that speed, you're going to be one of the longest on Tour.
Oh and Tiger had driver and 7-iron into #13 at Augusta on Sunday. I think guys like Kuchar had hybrids into that hole.
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if he blows out the field in his next tourney.

I agree. I have been an ardent opposer of what he and Haney worked on. Still though, 119 mph is a ton of clubhead speed and he should've been able to bomb it. But he couldn't because his attack angle was steep with the driver. I'm not sure I'd label that as 'dialing it' back, but just not the way you want to hit today's titanium driver. 3JACK
