The right wrist is an area that is causing me a little confusion. Im looking into cp and cf releases and the power elements of a full swing.
When i think of cp an cf i think of the takeaway for starters, for the cp the clubhead/face does not go toe up and stays facing the ball on the plane arc. (i hope) For this to happen (neutral grip) then basically my right wrist bends backwards in a hand clapping fashion. This keeps my left wrist flat (slighly bowed with a weaker grip)at the top, in that position it makes total sense that i just pivot and drag the whole unit around my body to square it up. Correct me if im wrong but thats fine in my head, when i practise i turn my body and the face is perfectly square. So i think i get cp, definetly body driven and not really any cocking or uncoking of left wrist ? Then just a release of the right wrist in the late follow through ? Pls tell me if im wrong,
Cf is different and i from what i can tell it is largely in the wrists and arms. I know jeff mann has stated that a swivel action is needed to get the club toe up on the takeaway. However this can be done without any right wrist upcocking, which is the bit i dont understand. The top of the backswing many instructors reference the right hand position at the top of the backswing as "holding the waiters tray", if i only bend my right wrist backwards and dont allow my right thumb to get any closer to the forearm i would never be able to support the shaft of the club at the top (like the waiters tray) i would have to be leaning over with my body to support the weight of the tray.
I have also linked this to the stone skipping action likened to right arm swingers, they dont just bend the right wrist back, they also swivel the wrist at the top to allow them to skip/throw underhanded at a low level to the ground. If they didnt swivel a stone skipper wouldnt use his hands a fingers for power, they would have to pivot for power like a CP releaser or a frisbee thrower.
So is there in fact a little upcocking of the right wrist in Cf release, if there isnt then i see cp as making total sense in my understanding of it but not cf. If a swinger of the club doesnt upcock the right a little then a right arm swinger would actually just be a hitter as the bent back right wrist would just be pushing the clubshaft into impact. If a CP user does this they can be pivoting and hitting with the right hand like hogan has quoted, i believe.
Also in a swinger if the left wrist is downcocking on a downwards and circular path for it to release then right wrist must be aswell for it be an underhanded movement/throw. If the right wrist is just bent back how can it perform an underhand motion ?
Sorry if wording is not great, just write it how it comes out.
