Dr Mann
I've noticed that there is a forum member on GOLFWRX probably spending a lot of money taking lessons from Mike Granato and has posted the evolution of his swing. Looks like he is suddenly feeling pain in his lead elbow joint and I quote : "What I'm working on now is extremely hard, and he even told me it's going to be difficult but it will be well worth the change. Now only if my left elbow would stop hurting".
Here was his original swing
www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=13&v=c-nLm6Wr_p0Now here is his current swing
www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=11&v=ZgDZ7q2XS3QI would have thought his 1st swing was flipping/rolling hand action through impact caused by early extension and the blocking of his right arm. I don't think Mike Granato has instructed him to use the correct muscles to optimise his pivot action and cure that early extension (as proven by your comments above).
What are your thoughts on Mike Granato's instruction to fix this golfers swing faults (I've copied and pasted the golfer's comments below)?
-----------------------------
1st Lesson: Mike Granato:
First thing he noticed was my right leg was straightening in the upswing causing my swing to become long and get out of timing. Basically, I was over swinging and having a lot of hip turn. We worked on this by doing some half swing drills where my right knee maintained flexion while my left knee worked inward.
Second, he noticed i was hinging very early in the swing causing my right wrist to become cupped and cause face issues. Incorporated this thought into the half swing drills where my swing thought was to not hinge my wrists early. We confirmed this by putting a device on my wrist and measured wrist angles. I was positive 45. We tried to get this in the 20 range which is extremely hard for me.
Third, we wanted my weight to get to my left side sooner. This was confirmed by the swing catalyst which is an awesome tool.
2nd Lesson
I had my 2nd lesson with Mike on Saturday and wanted to give you all an update. I arrive 30 minutes as usual, but this time at the actual Cartersville Country Club, which is very nice. When I arrive I tell Mike about my Misses which have been snap hooks(only with the driver), pulls (irons) , and blocks (driver). He watches me swing a few and said he was very impressed with how tight my swing looked from the first lesson.
He watches me hit about 20 balls and addresses the issue immediately, which is my upper body is turning way too fast so I’m smothering the golf ball. He then gives me the feel as to let the arms start the downswing and keep my chest back. When I do this, it reduces me relying on timing, which is why I’ll play very good or very bad. He also had me focus on hitting shot shapes which I’d never done before.
Essentially, this what I worked on for the entire hour was letting arms start downswing and keep my upper body back as long as possible.
He told me to hit thousands of balls and engrain keeping the chest back. He said it was going to be extremely difficult and will a lot of time.
