I don't - I think that he is rehearsing a combined "CP-arm release action + no-roll hand release action" (while retaining a bent right wrist through impact), and the efficient execution of that combined arm/hand release action is dependent on an ultra-fluid rotary pivot motion through impact. I could have swore that there is video out there that basically supports your statement, he wants to feel swinging left while maintaining the LAFW as long as possible. I will see if I can find it.
