The Swing Engineer is yet another person who audaciously believes that he understands the TGM book's concepts.
Consider his opinions expressed in the 3jack forum - richie3jack.proboards.com/thread/4292/aiming-point
He expressed his opinions re: the "Aiming Point" concept on his website at www.theswingengineer.com/Aiming_Point.html
He states regarding the endless belt concept-: "If you were to translate these properties into a real swing, you would increase the radius by using a longer shafted club, you would increase the belt speed by simply moving your hands faster and you would increase the pulley diameter by increasing the distance between your hands and your body, i.e. standing further away from the ball."
I disagree that the size of the pulley is determined by the distance between the hands and the body. I think that pulley size is determined by the shape and radius of the circular portion of the hand arc path.
He states-: "So what during the downswing changes linear travel (delivery) into angular travel (release)? The release begins as soon as you start to straighten the right arm on the downstroke.(11) Or in other words, once you start to move the First Power Accumulator towards its in-line condition."
I disagree. I believe that angular travel occurs when PA#4 starts to release as the left shoulder socket is the fulcrum point for the straight left arm's angular motion that happens when the left arm releases. Prior to the release of PA#4, the hand arc path can be linear because it is primarily determined by the motion of the left shoulder socket in space. A pure left arm swinger (who only uses the left arm and who doesn't use the right arm) can generate the same hand arc path as when he additionally uses his right arm to supplement his downswing action. Also, the linear section of the hand arc path occurs between P4 and P5-5.5 and most skilled golfers maintain a bent right arm during this power package slotting phase of the swing.
He states-: "The Aiming Point is a location on the ground where you are aiming the thrust of your right arm. --- So where on the ground is the Aiming Point? On the Endless Belt model that’s easy to see. If you were to trace a line from the linear travel to the ground it would be there, were the right arm would be thrusting to initiate the release, the start of the angular motion around the pulley."
That assertion is totally incorrect. The linear portion of the hand arc path primarily occurs between P4 and P5 and there is no right arm thrust during that stage of the downswing. A skilled golfer will be maintaining a bent right arm during that time period and if he is applying any right arm thrust against PP#1 secondary to an active right arm adduction action, then that thrust is three-dimensional - downwards and outwards and often slightly backwards (away from the target).
Here is Jamie Sadlowski's hand arc path.
The linear portion of the hand arc path is between 1 and 2 - which means that the endless belt must be oriented as I have shown in this picture.
The SE incorrectly orientates his endless belt system vertically as can be seen in this website photo.
He also states-: "The Aiming Point is directing the clubhead lag pressure point felt in your hand towards the ground. The hands are responsible for the downward element of the downswing as per 2-N-1 “The Primary Downward Force Vector is produced by the straightening Right Elbow...”
First of all, right arm straightening as an active action only occurs in hitters, and most golfers are swingers. Secondly, right arm straightening mainly occurs between P5.5 and P7 and it's direction of thrust is not solely downwards - it is three-dimensionally forwards, downwards and outwards.
What the SE doesn't understand is that the aiming point cannot be altered by the release of PA#4, or PA#1, if the fulcrum point of the straight left arm remains unchanged in its travel motion (as occurs in an Iron Byron machine) - because the fulcrum point is the left shoulder socket. One can alter the aiming point by changing the motion of the left shoulder socket - and this will happen mainly during the linear period of the endless belt travel time period between P4 and P5.5. That "fact" allows a golfer like Bobby Clampett to get his aiming point to be directed ahead of the ball - as seen in the following photo from Bobby Clampett's book.
The SE unilaterally/arbitrarily rejects Bobby Clampett's personal opinion in this website page -www.theswingengineer.com/FAQ_3.html
The SE denies that BC is aiming at an aiming point ahead of the ball - even though BC claims that this is what he is deliberately doing.
The SE even unilaterally/arbitrarily claims that BC is aiming at a point well behind the ball and he posts this photo on his webpage.
That's totally irrational! Just because BC's head is rotated rightwards at that time point in his downswing doesn't mean that he is "looking at an aiming point" at that time point in his downswing. How can the SE unilaterally/arbitrarily distort reality is such a self-serving manner?
