Dr Mann Here is a golf digest link with a video where they have inferred that VH's long game has detrimentally affected his short game. www.golfdigest.com/story/viktor-hovland-sucks-chipping-explainerI was wondering whether the reason for VH's bent left elbow approaching P7 creates more forward shaft lean which will tend to open the clubface as he supinates his left forearm. Therefore we have a relatively small degree of supination (because of his strong grip) closing the clubface while forward shaft bend tending to open it . Could this be a reason why VH has one of the lowest ROC's measured on ENSO 3D system and why his full driver swing tends to baby-fade the ball? Do you think his bent left elbow, if replicated in his short game, would cause too much forward shaft lean for his short chips/pitches around the green? DG PS . I've made an error , because when I look at this image , VH doesn't seem to have a strong grip.

I've made an error , because when I look at this image , VH doesn't seem to have a strong grip. Here is VH's PA#3 release action in his driver swing VH has a moderately strong lead hand grip (like Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka), and that makes it easier to generate forward shaft lean at impact. Also, there is less lead forearm supination required during their PA#3 release action. I do not believe that chicken-winging of his lead arm through impact is a factor that affects his ability to control his clubface through impact.
I believe that his low clubface ROC measurement through impact is reflective of his excellent DH-hand release technique.
I do agree that bowing the lead wrist (like VH, BK, DJ, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth and Collin Morikawa) increases the clubhead attack angle and decreases the dynamic loft, which may not be advantageous for precise clubface loft control in short game shots. However, that's not a problem that is only unique to VH and it applies to all pro golfers who use the bowed lead wrist technique. Jeff.
