I found this interesting: www.waynedefrancesco.com/695/getting-thrown-off-the-top-100/Apparently "the list" which we're supposed to believe means one's "made it" is more about butt kissing to first be selected then generating endless new ideas (flavor or the day teaching techniques) and articles for the golf rags. Politics.

Politics. Well the mags are highly depended on these free tips produced by the top 100 teachers so that part of it is not a surprise. Its a pretty good gig I guess, we throw you on this list and you do this work for us once a month. The ideas in the mags are mostly useless and rehash though you do get a few creative ones every now and then.

Yep... free labor. I thought there might be some sort of objective criteria... voted by players or peers etc. but apparently not. Guess its a you scratch our back we'll scratch yours kinda thing. I wasn't gonna mention it but I agree re. mag content. Though I love the game about the only time I pick up one of these magazines is if I'm stuck in a waiting room somewhere or at Borders waiting for the wife to finish her shopping. What with borders gone now, guess it will be even less often. Depends on the list. I believe Golf Digest's list is voted on by other teachers. Problem is that most of them just vote for the names they have heard of before. That's how the top-10 looks like it does.
